City Bank of Wheeling

Description
We may not have a lot of castles here in the United States, but we sure have a lot of other cool old buildings! I love the elements of old architecture. Having lived a big chunk of my life in Florida, old architecture is just something we didn't really have much of. I caught what I thought was the top of this old church over a bunch of other buildings in Wheeling, West Virginia, so I had to go for a long reach and a slight crop to get this shot. While I was doing a little homework for this post to find out what church it was, I discovered that it was in fact the City Bank of Wheeling (which has been acquired by Dollar Bank). In 1891 when it was built, this was the tallest building in West Virginia at 125 feet and was built for the staggering cost of $80,000. I felt that black and white was the perfect vibe for this shot of this amazing old building. My work takes me through Wheeling quite a bit. It is in rough shape in a lot of places, but Wheeling is going through a renaissance right now with a lot of renovation and revitalization going on. I need to revisit Wheeling on a photo trip as the renovations are completed.
